Dr. Mariam Kiran is a Research Scientist at LBNL, with roles at ESnet and Computational Research Division. Her current research focuses on deep reinforcement learning techniques and multi-agent applications to optimize control of system architectures such as HPC grids, high-speed networks and Cloud infrastructures.. Her PhD research focuses on agent-based simulations for infectious disease epidemiology with the goal of creating an agent-based simulation of Ireland. Elizabeth is currently working on the Precise4Q as a Postdoctoral researcher working on predictive modelling in stroke.
After graduating at the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft, Kasper Lange started working as a Research and Development Engineer in the manufacturing Industry. After a couple of years he decided to dedicate his career to Sustainable Engineering research and education at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). In 2015 he received a scholarship from AUAS to start a PhD research project on Design Research for Industrial Symbiosis in Urban Agriculture. As publically funded science has become increasingly complex, the policy and management literature has begun to focus more attention on how science is structured and organized. My research interests reside at the nexus of science and technology policy, organizational theory, and complexity theory—I am interested in how the management and organization of S&T research influences the implementation of policies and the emergence of organizational strategies and innovation. Although my research involves the use of multiple qualitative and quantitative methods, I rely heavily on agent based modeling and system dynamics approaches in addressing my research questions.
Fabian Adelt graduated in computer-sciences with a minor in sociology of technology (degree: Diplom-Informatiker) at TU Dortmund University in 2011. Currently, he is research fellow at the Technology Studies Group and involved in the project “Collaborative Data- and Risk-Management in Future Grids – A Simulation Study” (KoRiSim). Between 2012 and 2015 he worked on the project “Mixed Modes of Governance as a Means of Risk Management in Complex Systems” (RiskSim). Annie Waldherr is Professor of Computational Communication Science at the Department of Communication at the University of Vienna. She studied Communication Science at the University of Hohenheim and the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon. She held positions at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hohenheim and the Institute for Media and Communication Studies at Freie Universität Berlin where she also obtained her PhD in 2011. Before joining the University of Vienna in September 2020, Annie Waldherr was Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication at the University of Münster.
Her research focuses on public spheres, social movements and political communication under the conditions of digitalization, datafication and artificial intelligence.
Prof. Christian E. Vincenot is by nature an interdisciplinary researcher with broad scientific interests. He majored in Computer Science / Embedded Systems (i.e. IoT) at the Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg, France) while working professionally in the field of Computer Networking and Security. He then switched the focus of his work towards Computational Modelling, writing his doctoral dissertation on Hybrid Modelling in Ecology, and was awarded a PhD in Social Informatics by Kyoto University in 2011 under a scholarship by the Japanese Ministry of Research. He subsequently started a parallel line of research in Conservation Biology (esp. human-bat conflicts) under a postdoctoral fellowship of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) (2012-2014). This led him to create the Island Bat Research Group (www.batresearch.net), which he is still coordinating to this date. In 2014, he was appointed as the tenured Assistant Professor of the Biosphere Informatics Laboratory at Kyoto University. He also been occupying editorial roles for the journals PLOS ONE, Frontiers in Environmental Science, and Biology. In 2020, he created Ariana Technologies (www.ariana-tech.com), a start-up operating in the field of Data Science/Simulation and IoT for crisis management.
Prof. Vincenot’s main research interests lie in the theoretical development of Hybrid Mechanistic Simulation approaches based on Individual/Agent-Based Modeling and System Dynamics, and in their applications to a broad range of systems, with particular focus on Ecology.

He is currently a PhD student in Computing Science at Birkbeck, University of London. His research focuses on the economic study of individual preferences and decision-making, and on the use of agent-based models as a bridge between economic theory and computational experimentation. Through economic simulation, his work examines how heterogeneous preferences, social interaction, and firm behaviour jointly shape aggregate market outcomes, including non-linear dynamics and tipping points.
My research interests centre on the study of individual preferences in economics and on understanding how preferences evolve through interaction, learning, and social context. I am particularly interested in how seemingly weak or latent preferences—such as attitudes toward environmental attributes, prices, or social norms—can become amplified through feedback mechanisms and generate non-linear aggregate outcomes. A core methodological focus of my work is the use of agent-based modelling and economic simulation as a bridge between economic theory and experimentation. By treating agent-based models as computational laboratories, I explore how heterogeneous preferences, habit formation, peer influence, and firm behaviour interact dynamically, allowing theoretical mechanisms to be tested, stress-tested, and compared under controlled but flexible conditions that are difficult to achieve using purely analytical or empirical approaches.
